Description

As "one of the most beautiful pieces by the young composer", the B-flat string sextet was already very popular among the public and the press after the first performances in the spring of 1861 - and has maintained this position until today. Even the publisher Simrock was so taken with the work that he had Brahms' suggestion to print a score in addition to the parts, which at the time was by no means the rule. The numerous differences between these two first editions published in 1861 present Brahms research with many problems today. Brahms specialist Katrin Eich has already taken on this task for the new Johannes Brahms Complete Edition, the optimal treatment for the practice is now in the urtext edition - of course, also in parts and score.
