Description

After the highly acclaimed and award-winning publication of the Clavier booklet for Anna Magdalena Bach 1722 & 1725 (music edition award "Best Edition 2020" of the German Music Publishers Association) Edition Peters is now presenting the Clavier booklet for Wilhelm Friedemann Bach 1720 in a new high-quality Urtext edition by the internationally renowned Bach Researcher Christoph Wolff.

Bach's "Clavier-Buchlein" offer a fascinating insight into the music-making of the Bach family at home. They contain original compositions, exercises for the lesson as well as exemplary works by other composers, all of which were collected with the aim of providing family members with comprehensive musical training.

The Clavier Booklet for Wilhelm Friedemann Bach 1720 has Johann Sebastian Bach wrote for his eldest son, who later himself one of the leading organists, improvisers and composers was his time. It contains systematic exercises, first or early versions of three of Johann Sebastian Bach's most important piano cycles (early versions of some preludes from the Well-Tempered Clavier, preambula from the later two-part inventions and fantasies from the later three-part symphonies), suites by Johann Christoph Richter, Georg Philipp Telemann and Gottfried Heinrich Stolzel as well as other pieces.

This high-quality, linen-bound, splendid edition with gold stamping corresponds to the high quality standard of the Clavier books for Anna Magdalena Bach and, in addition to the new notation, contains images of the original manuscript and a comprehensive critical report. The output follows the landscape format of the original, which is ideal for the piano stand.

It is the first Urtext edition of the Clavier booklet for Wilhelm Friedemann Bach in 60 years, edited according to the latest scientific findings by the world's leading Bach specialist Professor Christoph Wolff. Not only have current research results on authors and copyists been incorporated, but thanks to recently rediscovered manuscripts, new fragments of notes have been incorporated into the edition for the first time and sources have been re-dated.
