It is the wrong amp for late-night practice — there is no headphone socket, no aux input and no Bluetooth — and at 18.2 kg it is not a carry-anywhere amp. If you want sounds built in, look at the Marshall CODE50 instead.

Description
The verdict
The Origin 50C is for the player who wants a real EL34 power amp and builds their sound from pedals: one channel, no effects, no modelling, and a Powerstem switch that winds 50 watts back to about 10 for smaller rooms.
It is the wrong amp for late-night practice — there is no headphone socket, no aux input and no Bluetooth — and at 18.2 kg it is not a carry-anywhere amp. If you want sounds built in, look at the Marshall CODE50 instead.
No headphone socket, no aux or MP3 input, no USB, no Bluetooth, no MIDI and no reverb. Those absences are published by Marshall, not gaps in our listing. If any of them matter to you, read the comparison below before you buy.
How it compares
Four amps we stock, all buyable as at 9 August 2026. Prices are ours.
| Marshall Origin 50C | Marshall CODE50 | Orange Crush 12 | Vox Pathfinder 10 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Our price | $1,477.95 | $475.95 | $209.00 | $179.00 |
| Circuit | Valve | Digital modelling (MST) | All-analogue signal path | Solid state |
| Output | 50 W (HIGH) | 50 W | 12 W | 10 W RMS, 8 ohm |
| Power scaling | 3-way Powerstem | No | No | No |
| Speaker | 1 × 12" Celestion G12N-60 | 1 × 12" custom voiced | 1 × 6" Voice of the World | 1 × 6.5" Vox Bulldog |
| Onboard effects | None | 24 FX, up to 5 at once | None | None |
| Effects loop | Yes, series, switchable | No | No | No |
| Headphone out | No | Yes, 3.5 mm | Yes, CabSim-loaded | Yes, combined headphone / line jack |
| Extension speaker out | Yes, 3 jacks | No | No | No |
| Footswitch | PEDL-90016 included | PEDL-91009 sold separately | No socket | No socket |
| Weight | 18.2 kg | 13 kg | 4.7 kg | 4.8 kg |
Of these four, the Origin 50C is the valve amp.
Buy the Marshall CODE50 instead if you want the sounds inside the amp rather than on your pedalboard. It is $1,002 cheaper and brings 100 editable presets, 24 effects with up to five at once, a built-in tuner, USB, Bluetooth and a 3.5 mm headphone output for silent practice. You give up the valves, the effects loop, the speaker outputs and the included footswitch — and it has no power-reduction control, so its 50 W is its 50 W.
Buy the Orange Crush 12 instead if this is a bedroom or a first amp and $1,477.95 is not the conversation you wanted to have. At $209.00 and 4.7 kg, its headphone output runs through Orange's CabSim circuit, which emulates a 4×12 cabinet — so quiet practice sounds like an amp. No effects loop, no speaker output.
Buy the Vox Pathfinder 10 instead if $179.00 is the number that suits and a Clean/Overdrive switch is range enough. At 4.8 kg, it has one combined headphone / line out jack — a single socket, not two — for silent practice. Vox publishes no effects loop, no footswitch socket and no extension speaker output.
The detail
One channel, two voices, and a boost you can stand on
The Origin 50C has a single channel. What it has instead of a second channel is TILT, which Marshall describes as blending between a normal and a high-treble channel character — one knob that moves the amp from its darker voice toward its brighter one. That is the tonal range you are buying; everything past Gain and Tilt is your guitar, your hands and your pedals.
The Gain control pulls out for a boost, and the same boost is switchable from the supplied PEDL-90016 footswitch. One detail worth knowing before you set up: Marshall notes that when the footswitch is connected, the boost is switched from the footswitch only. If you plug the footswitch in and the pull-boost knob stops responding, nothing is broken.
The two-way footswitch handles the boost and the effects loop, and it is included in the box — it appears both in Marshall's accessories specification row and in the handbook's accessories list. That is money you are not spending later; the CODE50's footcontroller, by contrast, is sold separately.
Powerstem, and what "50 watts" actually means at home
Powerstem is a three-way output switch marked HIGH, MID and LOW. Marshall publishes HIGH as 50 W and MID as approximately 10 W, and both of Marshall's own sources agree on those two. They disagree on the LOW setting's wattage, so this page does not state one — we would rather say nothing than print a number we cannot stand behind. If that figure decides your purchase, ask us and we will get it from Marshall Australia in writing.
Fifty valve watts is a rehearsal-room and stage proposition. Dropping the output setting lets you push the amp further up its own range at a volume a lounge room can take, instead of leaving the Master a hair off zero all night.
The loop, the DI, and the sockets that are not there
The effects loop is a single series loop, send and return on the rear panel, switchable from the footswitch. Series means the whole signal passes through whatever you patch in — which is what you want for delay and reverb, sitting after the preamp instead of in front of it.
You will need it, because the Origin 50C has no onboard effects: Marshall's specification panel prints EFFECTS: None. No reverb, no delay.
For recording and for front-of-house, there is a DI OUT on a 1/4" jack. Marshall's handbook describes it as an output socket carrying loudspeaker emulation, for connecting to recording equipment or a PA — so it is a cabinet-emulated feed, not a raw preamp tap. Note the connector: it is a 1/4" jack, not an XLR, so check what your interface or the desk at the venue accepts. It is not a silent-practice route — the speaker stays live.
Speaker and cabinets
The internal speaker is a Celestion G12N-60 Midnight 60 — 12", 16 ohm, rated at 60 W, comfortably above the amp's 50 W output. Unit impedance is 16 ohm.
There are three 1/4" speaker output jacks on the rear panel, labelled 16 OHM, 8 OHM and 2×16 OHM. So the combo does not have to stay a combo: take it to a bigger room and hang a cabinet off it. Impedance matching on a valve amp is not a guess — match your cabinet to the correct labelled jack and check Marshall's handbook first. No cabinet is supplied with the combo, and no speaker cable is either; Marshall's accessories list gives the speaker cable to the head version.
Size, weight and power
580 mm wide, 480 mm high, 245 mm deep, and 18.2 kg — measure the car boot and think about the stairs before load-in day. The rear panel is marked MAINS INPUT 175 WATTS, and a detachable power cable is included.
What you'll also need
Marshall supplies the footswitch and the power cable, so that is one accessory you are not buying. The usual additions:
- Time-based pedals — delay and reverb. The amp has none, and it has a series loop built to take them. → Guitar effects pedals
- Two patch leads for the loop, plus a decent instrument cable for the front. → Guitar & patch cables
- A speaker cable if you plan to run an extension cabinet — a speaker cable, not a guitar lead, and matched to the labelled jack. → Speaker cables
- An extension cabinet if you want more air than a 1×12 moves. → Guitar amp cabinets
- A cover. Nothing is supplied to protect it, and 18.2 kg of valve amp lives in the back of cars. → Amp covers & accessories
- Spare valves, if you gig it. Scarlett Music has in-house technicians at Footscray. → Amp valves & accessories
