Description

Paul Hindemith composed the "Little Sonata for Cello and Piano" on the 13th / 14th. May in New Haven (USA, Connecticut). He wrote this work - like a series of further works, which were expressly described as "small" at that time - obviously for his wife Gertrude and himself for private domestic music. This explains, on the one hand, the ambitious, musical content of the work, while at the same time reducing the technical requirements and, on the other hand, its destiny: Hindemith never published the work or publicly performed it.
