Description

The French violinist and composer Jacques Pierre Rode was born on 16 February 1774 Bordeaux and died on 26 November 1830 in Château de Bourbon at Damazon (Lot-et-Garonne). In 1787, a student of Viotti in Paris, of 1790 introduced him to the Théâtre de Monsieur with its own public Violinkonzerte was. Rode was appointed as leader of the second violins in the Théâtre Feydeau and later he was appointed as a solo violinist at the Opera, where he remained until 1799th During this time, in 1794, he performed with Garat in Hamburg, Berlin, Holland and England, and in 1795 a professor at the Conservatoire. 1799 traveled Rode to Spain, where he met with the famous cellist and composer Boccherini. With Boieldieu 1809 he went to St. Petersburg and was Soloviolinst when Tsar Alexander I with a salary of 5,000 rubles. 1808-11 he lived in Paris again, but his success was much lower than in previous periods. Spohr heard Rode originally during its transit in Braunschweig and was the first time so impressed that he tried for a long time, to imitate Rode's style. However, later (in 1813) Spohr heard him again in Vienna and reported in his autobiography of his disappointment about the game of Rode, which he found mannered UDN insufficient in the technical as well as in style. For further concert tours Rode met in Vienna and Beethoven, which explicitly for Rode his wonderful Sonata in G major, Op. 96 wrote, which was performed by Archduke Rudolph and Rode at a private concert. Beethoven, however, was not satisfied with the interpretation Rode's, and soon after he asked the Archduke to send the violin part to Rode, so that the work to look in more detail before a second performance. Mendelssohn reported in April 1825 that Rode summarized by this incident and its general failure a firm decision never again to take a violin in his hand. These disappointments Rode took so much to heart that henceforth his health increasingly deteriorated. Rode's compositions are still very beliegt for violinists, and his violin concertos and especially the 24 Caprices forme a d'études dans les 24 tons de la gamme are still each Geiger essential. The Caprices will always keep its place alongside those of Kreutzer, Dont, Wieniawski and Paganini, as they are of great value for a solid education on the violin. But the application of Rode's Caprices on the viola has proven to be extremely useful.
