The 19th century was a golden age for arrangements of all kinds. So it was obvious that the composer and violin virtuoso Sarasate also turned to this musical genre to expand his repertoire. Among Bizet's many fantasies about successful operas of his time, Bizet's Carmen undoubtedly takes first place. Sarasate deliberately chose precisely those numbers that best convey the Spanish color of the opera for this 1881 adaptation. In addition to the version for violin and piano Sarasate also created one with orchestral accompaniment; both have been enthusing audiences and critics ever since. The Henle Urtext edition is the first critical edition of the work and takes into account the sources of both versions. For the designation of the violin part, Augustin Hadelich could be won.
