Description

SKU 368666

Introduce piano students to the beautiful traditional music of South Africa with these 24 folksongs arranged for piano solo. During apartheid the music of the country's various cultures and groups (Afrikaans, amaNdebele, amaXhosa, amaZulu, Bapedi, Basotho, Batswana, Cape Malay, emaSwati, Vatsonga) developed separately, and the authors felt it long overdue to bring these contrasting musical traditions together. Titles include: The Axe Cuts the Thorn Tree • The Crowing of the Rooster • The Doves Above • God Bless Africa (Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika) • Here Comes the Alibama • I Have a Sweetheart • Jan Pierewiet • Mama, Who Is This? • Our Dearest Mothers • Sugar Bush • They Say There's a Man in the Moon, and more!
