Based on five panels from the 2004 graphic novel by Art Spiegelman, Mohammed Fairouz's 35-minute Symphony No. 4, In the Shadow of No Towers for wind ensemble evokes the cataclysm of 9/11 and its repercussions –from the personal to the national – over the following years. Bot h haunting and courageous, technically magnificent and deeply emotional,In the Shadow of No Towers was premiered by the University of Kansas Wi nd Ensemble under its music director Paul W. Popiel. Their recording of the work has been released on Naxos Records.
