Das Thema das Weber als Grundlage zu den vorliegenden Variationen (Kompositionsjahr: 1804) diente stammt aus der Oper Samori des Abbe Vogler bei dem er in Wien von 1803 bis 1804 Schler war. Die Variationen op. 6 entstanden offenbar auf die Veranlassung Voglers hin. Ursprnglich plante Weber noch Variationen zu 5 weiteren Themen aus der Oper die Vogler schlielich aber selbst schrieb. Die vorliegende praktische Ausgabe folgt dem Text der Weber-Gesamtausgabe.
